White-breasted

White-breasted Nuthatch

Posted on September 7, 2020January 23, 2021

This is one of my favorite birds–partly because of their unique and classic pose of pointing down the trunk of a tree and then arching their head and neck backwards—which is not what this nuthatch is doing. But this bird is in good light with a great background. I took about 15 shots before he moved with this being the best by far. The others have his head in an odd position where his eye isn’t clear or his beak is too far into the hollow. I would have benefited from grabbing an extender to get more telephoto. This is a very tiny bird that was about 70 feet from my lens.

About

I’m learning to see birds and their movement through the lens of a camera. I’m a new photographer surprised at the richness of detail the pictures provide. How I see and watch birds has changed forever.
