Red-breasted nuthatch in Nags Head NC

Red-breasted Nuthatch

Posted on November 17, 2020January 23, 2021

Nuthatches are one of my favorite birds with their distinctive posture. I photographed this female red-breasted nuthatch in Nags Head North Carolina last month using my old camera. In addition to the brick red coloring on their breast, these nuthatches have a strong white eye stripe that is absent from the white-breasted nuthatches that helps make a fast and clear identification.

Not a perfect shot, but I like the motion. The complexity of the feet are clear in this shot as is the focus and concentration on the destination.

About

I’m learning to see birds and their movement through the lens of a camera. I’m a new photographer surprised at the richness of detail the pictures provide. How I see and watch birds has changed forever.
