This is one of my first decent shots using my new Canon R5 mirrorless camera matched with Canon’s 800mm F/11 prime lens. I’ve had the camera for a week, but it’s rained just about every day. I need more experience getting used to it, but I can tell I’m really going to like it. And the 800mm lens is nice and light and can deliver great shots. The full frame sensor is a true gift, allowing me to crop in and still have sharp focus.
I am still struggling a bit with focus and getting use to the fixed F/11 aperature. It has great animal eye autofocus that I haven’t gotten to work reliably. With the older Canon Rebel Ti6, I shot mostly at F/4 and F/5.6. With the F/11, I obviously need more light. The camera’s sensor handles low light well, but I think the eye-tracking focusing system is challenged. I’ve got to try a few things with it–not sure if it’s me or the lens.
