Bald Eagle

Posted on February 13, 2022September 5, 2022

We’re seeing two to three bald eagles almost every day. This is my favorite shot of those I’ve taken this winter. The angle of the wings are interesting and the bird is in decent light. The money shot I’m hoping to get soon is of an eagle with talons out just before or just after grabbing a fish. That will be a great day. Well, for me—not so good for the fish.

This is a classic angle and pose. It’d be a bit boring if it wasn’t such an interesting bird. The eagle can be identified at a distance by it’s distinctive and powerful wing beat. It’s massive chest holds both the pectoralis muscle for the down stroke and the supracoracoideus which provides the upstroke. Amazing bird.

About

I’m learning to see birds and their movement through the lens of a camera. I’m a new photographer surprised at the richness of detail the pictures provide. How I see and watch birds has changed forever.
