Great Egret Eat Blue Crab

Telling a Story

Posted on August 22, 2020September 7, 2020

Crab for dinner! This shot is a perfect example of why I’m having so much fun photographing birds. This great egret was far enough away I couldn’t tell what he’d caught until I was reviewing the photos in Lightroom. Seeing the crab displayed so clearly was such a treat. I usually know when I’ve got some shots I’m excited about, but I don’t really know if they’re good until I can see them on the computer. It’s like opening packages from a grab bag. Most are average but ever so often you get something really great.

This great egret just took off. Where he last touched the water and droplets coming off of his feet are both visible behind him. I like movement and stories.

About

I’m learning to see birds and their movement through the lens of a camera. I’m a new photographer surprised at the richness of detail the pictures provide. How I see and watch birds has changed forever.
